Section 129 M.V. Act specifies compulsion for wearing
helmets by the motor cycle riders and the pillion riders.
The motorcyclists
expose themselves to a very high degree of risk when they
travel without helmets.

A vast majority of these lives would have been saved if
the motorcyclists had been wearing ISI marked helmets.
The Mumbai Traffic Police
has started a drive for rigorous implementation of this
rule and as a result, on 24th
June, 2008, 9482
motorcyclists were caught for not wearing helmets and they
all have been penalized. By 1 P.M
on 25th June, 2008, a total of
2585 motorcyclists had
been penalized.
The helmet rule is
applicable to the Pillion riders and also to the children
riding with their parents.
The Mumbai Traffic Police
makes a sincere appeal to all the motorcycle riders to
wear helmet; and not just wear them; but also strap the
safety belt on the helmet, so that it doesn’t slip off in
case of an accident. This will help us in saving precious
human lives. |
